How We Do It

A Research-based Approach

Arthur Academy is an academically focused school that seeks to accelerate achievement and learning of all its students. We use the nationally recognized, unique, highly specialized, and very effective curriculum programs:

Direct Instruction (DI), Oregon Model
+
Core Knowledge
+
Beginning Reading
+
Connecting Math Concepts

In addition the Arthur Academy faculty and staff are committed to maintaining a school environment that is safe, orderly and caring. They exhibit the Common Code of Values that the students learn as part of a comprehensive character education curriculum.

Direct Instruction

DI programs teach children to read, write, think, and do math from very simple beginnings to more advanced work. Experts on curriculum research and development from the University of Oregon have painstakingly constructed these programs over the last three decades. In participating in the largest research project ever, they proved to be far better than all other programs in the project.

Core Knowledge

The Core Knowledge programs of E.D. Hirsch are based on his books on Cultural Literacy. An increasing number of charter schools in the U.S. are using these programs.

Common Code of Values

Honesty
Friendship
Fairness
Kindness
Responsibility
Citizenship
Courage
Self-Discipline
Respect
Perseverance
